The ALJ/MBC Award Committee has been formed and the Committee has designated five themes for all future awards as follows:

•       Promoting sustainable employment through formal training
•       Supporting social awareness programs
•       Promoting environmental protection
•       Advancing rural development
•       Promoting ethics and moral values among youth.

At the Award Committee’s discretion, one or two themes may be selected each year for recognition of individuals and organizations and their contribution to society. The selected themes for 2008 are: the promotion of job creation by organizations; and the promotion of ethical and moral values and behavior by individuals. To be eligible for this award, organizations must demonstrate that they have achieved outstanding success in promoting employment opportunities and individuals must have achieved distinctive reputation in promoting moral and ethical values and behavior.

The rationale behind the Abdul Latif Jameel/MBC approach to social responsibility, and thus behind the proposed award, is that community service should be based on providing lasting opportunities and creating avenues for financial self-reliance rather than being of a more transient, sporadic nature consisting of one-off donations and individual monetary contributions. This is seen as infinitely more rewarding for the individual as well as much more beneficial for society in the long run.

We at ALJ/MBC have made it our objective to serve the community in the best way we can. We believe that the creation of job opportunities in the Arab world is a matter of urgent necessity and it needs to be addressed. Hence, the initiation by our group of a prestigious Award for distinguished community service

"In order to process this important Award, ALJ and MBC have secured the expertise of faculty and staff at Dar Al-Hekma College, the leading private college for women in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,  to develop the criteria and screening process as well as the design of the logo by their graphic design students."
